"Moto-cross can be a baffling and intimidating sport to the uninitiated enthusiast. The speed, the danger, and the thrills can have a deleterious effect on an unsuspecting racer or fan. When asked what the most feared obstacle at a racetrack is, most racers say the holeshot or the first turn. Some say it's the double jumps while others like me insist it's the super-cross whoop-de-doos. (whoop-de-doos? who made that up?). Take heart, seeker of knowledge; no matter where your fears may lie there is a safe way to deal with all of those obstacles.

The day started out with a small grey cloud off in the distance but it was foreboding of the weather to come with the few drops that it shed on the way to Dutchmen MX. The rider turn-out was fair but practice started almost promptly at 9 am. The track was in beautiful condition for practice and the weather made a turn for the better with bright sun shining. However those conditions quickly changed when a storm
